Edifício Wilton Paes de Almeida

In march 2018 we were invited to Feira Plana in São Paolo. We immediately fell in love with the city, the blade runner of South America, the modern Babylon, we also started to notice every Pichação that came across as it is the local form of graffiti, usually in black or white with gothic shapes and made in really risky heights. As we wandered through downtown of SP we encountered the Edifício Wilton Paes de Almeida, a back then derelict building once praised as a symbol of the progress and modern architecture, before it become vacant it was a Police enforcement headquarter. Then came the years of Illegal occupation of the building.

Two months after we left SP the building was set on fire. Is it possible the graffiti that said OPUS 666 with satanic glyph had something to do with it? No one knows if these was a deliberate act to get rid of the building and open the possibility to use the land for its market value or if it was a mere accident, the local media didn’t ask too many questions and the politicians tried to stay out of public spotlight.

One year after this events we are proud to announce the publishing of our fanzine Edifício Wilton Paes de Almeida commemorating this iron and concrete colossus
